New DHL Trade Growth Atlas: Strong Outlook for South Asia and India Despite Disruptions in Global Supply Chains Monday 26 September 2022 08:00 AM UTC+00 Business Wire India
DHL and NYU Stern School of Business have published the new DHL Trade Growth Atlas, which maps the most important trends and prospects of global trade in goods. The report covers 173 countries, providing valuable business intelligence for policymakers and industry leaders. Despite recent shocks and market pessimism, it shines a positive light on the resilience of global trade. "Our aim is for the DHL Trade Growth Atlas to become a go-to resource for understanding and navigating shifts in the global trade landscape. In the current global business environment, DHL can help customers rethink certain supply chains, basing them on a sensible trade-off between cost and risk so that they are both efficient and secure. As the world's leading logistics provider, we offer solutions for all logistics requirements, and have proven to provide stable and reliable services even in volatile market environments," says John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express. There was a surge of interest at the start of the pandemic in shortening supply chains and producing goods closer to customers. However, as trade recovered and global supply chains delivered a record amount of goods, many companies paused reshoring and nearshoring plans. Emerging economies, particularly those in Southeast and South Asia, became important exporters of sophisticated capital goods such as industrial equipment, engines, and raw materials. "It is fantastic to see emerging economies racing ahead in global trade. South Asia is expected to rapidly increase its share of global trade, with India doubling its trade volume growth rate in the next five years. Given the growing number of MSMEs in the region, it is only natural to enter this market and establish a strong supply chain network to access the ecosystem. We know that global trade growth impacts economic growth rates and enables countries to reduce inflation, as they gain access to key inputs such as industrial goods and raw materials through multiple trade routes. According to the data we have gathered, the shift in trading patterns will result in higher quality goods produced versus the quantity of goods produced by emerging markets in the future," says R.S Subramanian, SVP South Asia, DHL Express. Key Take-Aways: Growth, Shifts, and Opportunities
Understanding Global Trade and its Opportunities The DHL Trade Growth Atlas examines global trade growth trends, geographic shifts, the mix of products traded, and broader changes in the business environment. It analyzes trade in goods worldwide, by region, for advanced vs. emerging economies, and across 173 countries. The report features concise one-page summaries for each of these countries. The countries covered comprise more than 99% of world trade, GDP, and population. "We have sought to distill the most important data on the state and trajectory of global trade and to bring the data to life in maps, charts, and other visual content. The results show how there are still large trade growth opportunities in both advanced and emerging economies and in regions around the world. The trade landscape is shifting and presenting new challenges, but this report strongly rebuts predictions of a major retreat from global trade," says Steven Altman, Senior Research Scholar and Director of the DHL Initiative on Globalization at NYU Stern's Center for the Future of Management. The DHL Trade Growth Atlas complements the established DHL Global Connectedness Index series. While the DHL Trade Growth Atlas provides a special deep dive on global trade in goods, the DHL Global Connectedness Index, published regularly since 2011, analyzes the broader phenomenon of globalization – based on trade in goods and services, as well as worldwide flows of capital, people, and information. Both reports help pinpoint promising business opportunities, and support fact-based debates about trade and globalization. Aster MIMS Collaborates with Medtronic to Amplify Access to Stroke Care for Patients in Kerala Saturday 22 October 2022 06:24 AM UTC+00 Business Wire India Aster MIMS Hospital, Kozhikode and India Medtronic Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Medtronic plc (NYSE: MDT), today announced their partnership to build a comprehensive program for stroke patients in Kerala. The program involves a hub and spoke model wherein, Aster MIMS will build a network of identified hospitals in and around Calicut and provide them with teleconsultation support and resources to mobilize stroke patients who are at a critical stage and in urgent need of therapy. As part of the partnership, Medtronic will be providing education and training support to the identified hospitals along with awareness tools and technologies to manage stroke. The partnership is aimed towards addressing accessibility and awareness of stroke, and its management. The program aims to create a strong network of healthcare centers that work in close collaboration with Aster MIMS to elevate stroke care in Kerala In India, nearly 1.18 million patients are affected by stroke each year of which 68-80% of the strokes are ischemic (i.e., blood clot in the brain).1,2 Stroke is a medical emergency during which the blood flow is blocked to the brain. The most important course of treatment is to remove the block in the brain as soon as possible- and must be done within 24 hours from the onset of symptoms. There are two ways to remove the block in the brain – IV thrombolysis (administering clot-dissolving medicine) and mechanical thrombectomy (physically removing the clot). "Due to lack of stroke ready centers, most patients do not get these treatments on time. The aim of our partnership with Medtronic is to support patients who may be affected by stroke and are not aware of the symptoms and criticality of the treatment window. Aster MIMS is a comprehensive stroke care center, and our team is available 24x7 to treat stroke. Through this hub and spoke model, we want to extend our expertise to more patients in and around Kerala," said Dr. Jacob P.Alapatt, HoD and Senior Consultant, Neurosurgery, Aster MIMS, Calicut. "Although current clinical practice guidelines recommend the use of mechanical thrombectomy for stroke management, patient utilization remains low in India. While more than 2.7 lakhs patients are eligible for mechanical thrombectomy each year, fewer than 1500 or ~0.5% are treated with it.3The program is designed to break down barriers to treatment and standardize patient care pathways — to reduce the overall burden of stroke. Through our partnership with Aster MIMS, we aim to increase access to life-saving therapies for more patients in India," said Madan Krishnan, Vice President & Managing Director, Medtronic India. As per the hub and spoke model, Aster MIMS will be the centralized hub, connecting other hospitals in different sectors with the help of advanced technologies. If a patient with stroke symptoms visits one of the network hospitals (spokes), their scan and other vitals will be passed on to team of experts at Aster MIMS for further evaluation. The subsequent treatment and medication would be advised accordingly. The condition of the patient will be continuously assessed through telemedicine. There will be 24-hour service of multiple neuro-interventional surgeons for conducting mechanical thrombectomy. For Medtronic, the partnership with Aster MIMS for holistic stroke management is the first in the series. The aim is to leverage partnerships across India that can help in advancing care to more patients even in smaller towns. "To provide our patients with advanced and efficient treatment methods, we've partnered with Medtronic earlier. With the new partnership, Aster MIMS will be able to offer a comprehensive stroke treatment program for patients in Kerala. We are pleased to be able to offer patients in Kerala and across India such advanced healthcare technologies and therapies," said Farhan Yasin, Regional Director, Aster Hospitals-Kerala & Oman. Madan Krishnan - Vice President & Managing Director, Medtronic India, Farhan Yasin - Regional Director - Aster Kerala and Oman Cluster, Dr. Jacob Alappatt - HOD & Senior Consultant - Neurosurgery, Aster MIMS Calicut, Dr Abraham Mammen - CMS & HOD Pediatrics Surgery, Dr Noufal Basheer - Dy.CMS & Senior Consultant, Dr. Abdurehiman KP, Senior Consultant and Head of Neurology, Dr. Ashraf V V, Senior Consultant and Director, Neurology attended the press conference. ** References 1. Eternal Hospital Jaipur Successfully Performs Complex Angioplasty with Rotashock Technique on Impella Support World's Smallest Heart Pump Thursday 06 October 2022 10:21 AM UTC+00 Business Wire India Madan Mohan Khandelwal (86) who was suffering from poor pumping capacity of the heart and severe calcified heart blockages could not be operated through angioplasty nor was bypass surgery possible due to his age and multiple co-morbidities. In such a situation, the city's doctors successfully saved his life with the help of state-of-the-art Rota-shock technology (Rotablation + Shockwave) on Impella Support (Miniature Heart Pump). Dr. Sanjeev Sharma, Director of Interventional Cardiology at Eternal Hospital, in this very complex case, with the help of new technology, not only saved the patient's life but also increased the pumping capacity of his heart. A heart weakened by heart attack Dr. Sanjeev Sharma told that the patient was having heaviness in the chest and difficulty in breathing. When he came here, it was found that he had multiple calcified blockages in all three arteries of his heart for which bypass surgery was advised but due to problems like old age, kidney disease, and diabetes, surgery became very risky. Due to the heart attack, the pumping capacity of his heart was reduced to only 35 percent, because of which it was not possible for him to have a normal angioplasty. In such a situation, doctors advised him for Impella Support Angioplasty which is the latest technology. Heavy Calcium was deposited in the aorta, left main trunk, and all three arteries In the examination of the patient, it was found that a large amount of calcium was deposited in all three arteries of his heart and there was leakage in the mitral valve, due to which conditions like water filling in the lungs, and low BP was occurring again and again. Along with this, he also had a stroke attack which was handled by the neuro team of the hospital. Dr. Sanjeev Sharma told that Impella support was taken for angioplasty. With the help of Impella, the world's smallest artificial pump, blood was pumped into the patient's body at the rate of four liters per minute. For calcified blockages, doctors used rotablation and IVL (shockwave) techniques. After the calcium removal, the stent's correct position was ascertained by the IVUS technique. The pumping capacity of the patient's heart increased after the procedure with Impella support. Kidney function also got better with an improvement in cardiac output. After providing ICU care for some time, he was discharged from the hospital in stable condition and doing well. Eternal Hospital's Co-Chairperson Manju Sharma and CEO Dr. Pracheesh Prakash said that with the use of cutting-edge technologies, Eternal Hospital strives to provide the finest care possible for critically ill patients. In this instance, hospital was also successful in achieving this goal. This type of peer-to-peer learning outside of Elekta Training Centers is offered to drive the uptake of high precision radiotherapy treatments. "The innovative program to train and upskill clinicians is designed to improve and standardize the clinical treatment protocols and bridge the gap between academia and industry," says Manikandan Bala, Elekta's Managing Director for India. "We have been vocal about addressing the challenges in our cancer care infrastructure. Creating access to quality cancer care is our top priority, however, to successfully do that we need to train professionals to deliver the treatment. It's this symbiotic relationship that will help us succeed. We are hopeful that in the near future there will be both a sufficient number of treatment devices and qualified staff to operate them in India." Gustaf Salford, President & CEO Elekta, adds: "Our collaboration with HCG is a ray of hope for millions of Indian cancer patients. Through this training program we aim to bridge the skill gap in radiotherapy and, in turn, improve access to and the quality of treatment for people with cancer in India.
