Zomato gears up for $2 billion acquisition, share prices spike

After Blinkit, online food delivery platform, Zomato, is gearing up for another huge acquisition. Now, the company has offered to acquire domestic logistics solutions provider ShipRocket for about $ 2 billion (more than Rs 16,600 crore). Bloomberg, citing people aware of the development, reported that Zomato has offered to buy the company and no final decision has been taken yet on the deal.
India's forex reserves jumped USD 9.112 billion to USD 615.971 billion in the week ended December 15 (Friday) and the quantum of increase is one of the highest for a week, according to RBI data. In the previous reporting week, the overall reserves had risen USD 2.816 billion to USD 606.859 billion.
Bank holidays in January: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the list of bank holidays for the month of January. As per the RBI's holiday list, banks across the country will be closed for a total of 11 days this month, apart from the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays. 
India has said that certain projections made by the International Monetary Fund on alleged government debt vulnerabilities do not reflect the factual position adding that it has done relatively well and is still below the debt level of 2002.
Business news: The Income Tax Department has notified ITR forms 1 and 4, which are filed by individuals and entities with annual total income of up to Rs 50 lakh, for assessment year (AY) 2024-25. Individuals, besides Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), firms having income up to Rs 50 lakh and those having earnings from business and profession in the current fiscal (April 2023-March 2024) can start filing returns for the income earned this financial year.

Air India: Air India officially took delivery of its first Airbus A350-900 today (December 23), making history as the first Indian carrier to operate the aircraft type.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday (December 24) said that increase in exports and reduction in imports is the new way ahead for patriotism and "swadeshi" and it will be a "new freedom" for India when not a drop of petrol and diesel is imported in the country. The Minister of Road Transport and Highways said that stopping the import of petrol and diesel was linked to arresting terrorism in the world.
2023 turned out to be good for stock market investors. There were very few shares in which investors suffered losses. Investors made a lot of money in most of the shares. Some shares jumped up to 1300 percent. About 82 percent of the shares on the National Stock Exchange gave positive returns till December 19 this year. The signing of this balanced PPA marks the completion of the power offtake agreements for the entire 8,000 MW manufacturing-linked solar tender awarded to AGEL by the SECI in June 2020, according to a statement from the company.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Wednesday approved a hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Copra for 2024 season. The MSP for milling copra (dried white part of coconut) has been set at Rs 11,160 per quintal and Rs 12,000 per quintal for ball copra for 2024.
